“How do we see the future with a different lens?”
Refleur is an extension of Eclipsed Memories: a fortune telling-kit, where the reflection of future lies in the symbolism of flowers and untranslatable words. In contrast to the theme of Eclipsed Memories, Refleur encourages the audience to look into the future with a different lens.
Inspired by Omikuji, the fortune-telling kit includes a box of 15 wooden sticks and a total of 15 envelopes that hold photos of flowers along with foreign words. The meaning of the flower and the untranslatable words will disclose the fortune of the player.
Initial Ideas & Sketches
At the start, I had many separate ideas for this project, among which, the Omikuji-inspired box and the polaroid-inspired photos were two different ones.
However, I reconsidered the overall purpose of the project: I wanted something that encourages the audience to look into the future, something related, but at the some time, in contrast with Eclipsed Memories. It was at this point that I reworked my ideas and combined them into a fortune telling kit: Refleur.
Prototyping
The material used in the fortune telling kit was a crucial part in the prototyping process.
My initial idea was to use transparent photos, since I believe that the future is always based on the past. The translucent quality makes them look like snapshots of memories: fragile and beautiful.

The design includes not just the book itself, but also the extension project Refleur, which, in contrast to the book, encourages the audience to look forward into the future.
